‘Velvet Night’ is part of the ‘Breathing the Wild’ series, which explores the connection between mood and immersion in nature. This piece has been created by layering velvety, cold wax medium and oils onto wood, and then carving through the layers to reveal the forms and colours beneath. Each separate layer is left to harden before it is carved and another layer added over the top, until a series of about 20 carved layers have been built. The technique requires a good memory as well as a willingness to ‘let go’ when necessary, as the work takes on a life of its own.

This original artwork can be framed or left as it is. The back is prepared with picture hardware, ready to hang.
