'We Were Here' (SOLD)

A$2,500.00

‘We Were Here’ is an original encaustic painting by Australian wildlife artist Tanya Ogilvie-White. It’s part of her ‘Extinction Series’, created to highlight the plight of endangered species and to call on people everywhere to do what they can to help protect them.

In ‘We Were Here’, two yellow-tailed black cockatoos are seen flying over a flooded and lifeless landscape, which has been devastated by fire and flood. But despite the traumatic weather events, there is still beauty in the reflection of the sunset on the water, and still hope that the negative impacts of climate change can be reversed. Part of the artist’s ‘Extinction Series’, this painting was created at the height of the Australian bushfire crisis of 2019-2020, and is a call to action to people everywhere to protect iconic species that are being depleted by climate change. Many thousands of black cockatoos, some of which are already endangered and facing extinction, were killed and injured in the fires. They and their habitat need our protection, otherwise one day they will disappear for ever.
