I photographed this honeyeater chick's first flight in spring this year and then transformed the photograph into an original artwork using layers of hot wax, cold wax and oil. I carved into the wax layers to reveal the colored layers beneath, creating movement, texture and depth.

'Honeyeater's First Flight' is part of my unique Last Light Series, which celebrates the ethereal qualities of encaustic (hot wax) and the vibrant colors of cold wax and oil.

This archival piece is framed in Tasmanian oak, and prepped with picture hardware, ready to hang.
