Still (SOLD)
Still (SOLD)
'Still' is the first piece in my 'Wild Series', depicting dreamy landscapes and wild grasses.
I love witnessing fleeting moments when I'm out in nature. This encaustic painting in inspired by one of those experiences - watching a still moment, when the wind dropped completely, and the grasslands stood motionless, framing a stormy sky.
I use the ancient Greek encaustic method in my work, applying up to 50 layers of molten beeswax to landscape and wildlife photographs, which I build up with raw pigments and line carving, and burn in with a live flame. The result is dreamy and ethereal, like something from a fairytale.
The wax is hardened and cured, so this triptych is as robust as an oil painting. It can be hung as it is, or framed.
