'Spring Tide' is an original cold wax artwork of an azure kingfisher chick I photographed at the edge of the Clarence River, in northern New South Wales (Eastern Australia). It's part of my new Moonlight Series. I created it by building up contrasting layers of cold wax and oil paint, which I carved into to create texture and movement. The cold wax is interesting to work with - it has a soft luminance and a velvety texture that suits water scenes. I decided to create a high key palette to represent moonlight, leaving just glimpses of the darkening water and sky.

This artwork is archival quality. It does not need to be framed (it's embedded into solid birch panel and prepped with picture hardware on the back, ready to hang).
